Jim - A four year Home B.A.S.E. mentor

We are so lucky to have such great mentors and Jim is one of those who we owe so much to. He is retired out of Lucent Technologies and has also worked with us for four years. Jim takes the mentoring with us seriously and provides leadership not only on the building site but off the site when he calls and relays plans of procedures and materials that we should have on site for the next time we work. Over the years, he has helped us out of the many jambs we have gotten ourselves into and has helped make our houses outstanding in their quality. There was one house when he helped straighten a sixty foot facia by cutting the bottom edge straight and then ripping another sixty foot of tapered pieces of wood to fit to the bottom edge. He has experience working with high school students. He helped coach the Brookhaven football team when they were City League Champions.

This will be Jim's fifth year with us.

Dave - A four year Home B.A.S.E. mentor

This is the fifth year that Dave has been our mentor. He retired out of Columbus Public Schools with thirty years as an Industrial Arts teacher. His very calm demeanor coupled with his extensive experience with high school students, helps him work really well with our class. We have come to rely on his outstanding craftsmanship and problem solving skills which enables us to be successful even though we run into some very complex problems. Dave has taught us that when the tough get going, the tough don't get duct tape, they get c-clamps. This is a picture of Dave out with us on an a Saturday when he lead small group of students and they laild out the entire foundation in preparation for putting on sill plates.

Phil - Starting his first build with us this year.

Phil volunteered for this project after finding out about it from the Columbus Green Building Forum. He built his own earth sheltered home in southern Ohio and has been framing and remodeling for many years.

He is a former teacher which shows in the great way he works students.

With his considerable artisic skill as a musician, Phil is also quite a craftsman as shown by these pictures of a strip canoe he hand built from Basswood cut from a tree from his brother's farm.
